Galvalume Plus™ is an aluminum-zinc coated steel that provides extra corrosion protection. The cost of Galvalume Plus™ is slightly more than galvanized steel because of the specialized coating and 50-year warranty.

Galvalume Plus™ offers the best qualities of aluminum-coated (aluminized) and zinc-coated (galvanized) steels. It has resistance to corrosion and heat like aluminized materials. It also offers good galvanic protection and forming qualities similar to galvanized steel. So, Galvalume Plus™ will resist rust, the elements and fire while providing a sturdy and protective covering.

Galvalume Plus™ offers:

  • At least twice the corrosion resistance of traditional galvanized coatings of similar thickness under the same exposure condition.
  • Excellent protection at cut edges
  • Exceptional heat reflectivity, resulting in lower energy load on buildings and improved interior comfort
  • A distinctive appearance, with a smooth, fine spangle and silvery metallic finish
  • High temperature resistance

All at no extra cost per square foot!

Right now, manufacturers use Galvalume Plus™ for car mufflers, standing seam roofing, fence tubing, greenhouses, steel buildings, and more.

Pioneer Steel gets Galvalume Plus™ from the steel mill ArcelorMittal Dofasco. This product is exceptionally cost-effective, and we share those savings with our customers.

CORROSION RESISTANCE

Galvalume pluss corrosian resistance

Galvalume Plus™ offers strong protection from aluminum and zinc. It lasts at least twice as long as regular galvanized steel. This is true in most atmospheric conditions and with the same coating thickness.

Over 13 years of tests by Bethlehem Steel, they found that Galvalume Plus™ coated steel lasts longer than galvanized steel by:

  • Four times in exposure tests in a severe marine environment
  • Twice as long in a less severe marine location
  • Six times longer in industrial environments
  • Three times longer in rural situations

HIGH TEMPERATURE PERFORMANCE

Galvalume Plus™ steel resists intermediate and high temperatures far more effectively than galvanized steel.

Galvalume Plus™ steel does not change color when exposed to temperatures up to 315°C (600°F). This is true for both continuous and intermittent exposure over a long time.

Above this temperature, some discoloration does occur and roughening of the surface is possible. Neither this discoloration nor roughening, however, reduces Galvalume Plus's resistance to rust. Galvalume Plus™ maintains its rust-resistance up to 675°C (1250°F.)

Additionally, Galvalume Plus™ has excellent heat reflectivity, up to operating temperatures of about 315°C (600°F.) This heat reflectivity makes a building cooler inside on hot, sunny days.

PAINTING GALVALUME PLUS™

painted s-series buildings

Galvalume Plus™ readily accepts most of the paints recommended for galvanized steel. The surface should be dry and free of oil, grease, dirt, dust and other contaminants. No weathering period is necessary.

A paint supplier should be consulted. They can help choose the best painting system. They will also ensure the primer and topcoat work well together.
